There is a long gap between exits 39 and 40W, the longest gap between two exits in Nassau. Even though several major roads, such as Red Ground Road, Wheatley Road, and Post Road (CR 4), cross the expressway and intersect the service roads in this area, there are no exits for any of them. This is the case because the people who lived in this area when the expressway was constructed did not want an exit in their neighborhood.

Exit 47 was to have been for the Caumsett Parkway, an extension of the Bethpage Parkway north to Caumsett State Park in Lloyd Harbor. Since the parkway was never built, exit 47 does not exist.
There is a weigh station for trucks between exits 46 and 48. Exit 48 is for Round Swamp Road (CR 110).
