Exit 15A is for Orange Turnpike (NY 59/NY 17). NY 59 ends at this interchange, and Orange Turnpike changes designation to become NY 17 north. Southbound NY 17 is multiplexed with I-87 straight ahead for one exit. Please note that the route signage assembly shown here is erroneous. NY 17 is not multiplexed with I-87 until after exit 15A, and I-287 is not multiplexed with I-87 until after exit 15. Also, I-287 is only considered to be a north/south route in New Jersey. In New York, it is an east/west route.

Exit 15 is for I-287/NJ 17 south. NY 17 splits off from the Thruway here and crosses the border into New Jersey, multiplexed with I-287, just south of the exit. Therefore, there is an exit for a New Jersey state route, even though I-87 remains entirely in New York. Eastbound I-287 is multiplexed with I-87 along the Thruway straight ahead.

The Thruway curves to the east and merges with I-287, which enters the state from New Jersey just south of here. I-287 is multiplexed with I-87 along the Thruway beginning at this point. Exit 14B is for Airmont Road (CR 89).
