Troy-Schenectady Road changes designation from NY 2 to NY 7 upon crossing the Northway (I-87) in Latham. It runs west as a four-lane road. There is a grass median at first, and then the median ends and it continues as an undivided road.

The roadway splits. Bear right for Union Street, which begins here. Bear left to stay on NY 7. Union Street becomes part of NY 146 a few blocks west of here, but there is no signage to indicate so at this intersection.

After the split for Union Street, NY 7 is a divided highway called the Crosstown. There is a turnaround to go back on Troy-Schenectady Road.
