Approaching Binghamton, the speed limit drops to 55 MPH. Exit 6 is for Castle Creek Road (US 11), I-88, and Front Street (US 11/NY 12).

The highway splits. To the right, I-81 is multiplexed with NY 17/Future I-86. Exit left to go west on NY 17/Future I-86, which is known as the Southern Tier Expressway.

The two highways split. Bear left for NY 17/Future I-86. Bear right to stay on I-81. Located immediately after the splits, exit 2 is for US 11.

I-81 continues straight ahead into Pennsylvania. There are some signs posted by PennDOT on the New York side of the border for the welcome center just ahead.
