US 33/WV 55 runs west as a two-lane undivided road, winding its way through the mountains. There is a small town called Alpena, but otherwise the surroundings are very rural along this stretch.

In Bowden, US 33/WV 55 becomes a four-lane divided highway for a short distance. There are at-grade intersections at Faulkner Road (CR 5/12), Kelly Mountain Road (CR 25), and Old Route 33 (CR 33/8).

The highway ends, and US 33/WV 55 narrows down to two lanes again. The speed limit drops to 45 MPH coming into Elkins.

There is a traffic light at Seneca Trail (US 219/US 250/WV 92). Turn left to go south to south or right to go north. US 33 and WV 55 split here, and are routed along Seneca Trail to the north and south, respectively. 11th Street is straight ahead.

US 33 is multiplexed with US 219/US 250/WV 92 along Seneca Trail and with US 219/US 250 along North Randolph Avenue through Elkins to the western section of Corridor H.

Skipping west to Buckhannon, US 119 is multiplexed with US 33 along Corridor H. There is a traffic light at Brushy Fork Road (CR 7).
