Welcome to New York, Rockland County, the Town of Ramapo, and the Village of Suffern! I-287 enters the state multiplexed with NJ 17, which becomes NY 17 at the state line. The roadway splits. Bear right to stay on I-287, which is multiplexed with I-87 along the New York Thruway south. Bear right for to stay for the Thruway north and NY 17 north.

I-287 is multiplexed with I-87 south along the New York Thruway through Rockland County and across the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge over the Hudson River to Westchester County.
On the other side of the bridge, the two routes split. The New York Thruway (I-87) curves south toward New York City, while I-287 continues east as the Cross Westchester Expressway. Exit 3 is for the Sprain Parkway south.

I-287 ends here. Exit 11 is for Boston Post Road (US 1). Exit 12 is for the New England Thruway (I-95) south. After exit 12, I-287 becomes a ramp to the New England Thruway (I-95) north. The ramp merges into I-95 just before the Connecticut border, where it becomes the Connecticut Turnpike.
