There is a traffic light at Colin Drive and Greenbelt Parkway. This is the only traffic light between Sunrise Highway (NY 27) and the Long Island Expressway (I-495).

Beginning here, Nicolls Road is essentially an expressway for a while. There is an exit for Patchogue-Holbrook Road (CR 19).

There is a traffic light at Nesconset Highway (NY 347). Turn right to go east or left to go west. There are plans to upgrade this intersection to a grade-separated interchange.

Nicolls Road continues north toward Stony Brook University.

Nicolls Road passes through Stony Brook University. There are three entrances, the South Entrance, the Main Entrance, and the North Entrance. All three are traffic light intersections.

Nicolls Road passes under the Port Jefferson Branch of the Long Island Rail Road and then ends at a traffic light at North Country Road (NY 25A). Turn right to go east or left to go west.
