Welcome to Orange County! There is a traffic circle just past the county line. The Palisades Parkway has its northern terminus at the circle. US 6 west is routed along the parkway beginning here for a short distance. There is also access to the Bear Mountain Bridge (US 6/US 202). US 202 splits off from US 9W here and crosses the bridge, multiplexed with US 6, to Westchester County.

Welcome to Fort Montgomery! Just to the right on the other side of the bridge is the Fort Montgomery State Historic Site, which is the site of an American fort that was destroyed by the British during the American Revolution.

US 9W runs north through Fort Montgomery as a four-lane undivided road. There are a few traffic lights along this stretch.

Heading out of town, US 9W gains a divider and becomes an expressway. There is an exit for Main Street (NY 218), which begins here. It is the first of three consecutive exits for NY 218.

US 9W ascends Storm King Mountain and then comes down the other side. There are no exits on the mountain, although there is a parking area on the way down.
