US 44 merges in from the right. The two routes are multiplexed through Poughkeepsie as a pair of parallel one-way streets. There is a traffic light at Taft Avenue (CR 38) at the merge point. Motorists coming from US 44 can turn right to go north, but right turns are prohibited from the lanes coming from NY 55.
