Welcome to New York! All vehicles pass through a cashless tolling gantry after coming off the Bayonne Bridge. Exit 13 is for Morningstar Road and Richmond Terrace. It is located immediately after the toll.

The northernmost section of NY 440 is a short expressway called the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway. Exit 12 is for Forest Avenue.

Exit 11 is for Victory Boulevard. It is a left exit. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway ends here at the Staten Island Expressway (I-278). Bear left for exit 10E to go east. Bear right to go west and to stay on NY 440.

NY 440 follows the Staten Island Expressway (I-278) west for a couple of exits.
NY 440 splits off from the Staten Island Expressway (I-278) and runs south as the West Shore Expressway. The first exit is exit 8, which is for South Avenue.

Exit 2 is for the Korean War Veterans Parkway, which was formerly known as the Richmond Parkway.

The expressway curves to the west and merges with the Korean War Veterans Parkway. Exit 1 is for Arthur Kill Road.

Straight ahead, the Outerbridge Crossing crosses the Arthur Kill to New Jersey. At the state line, NY 440 becomes NJ 440.
