At its northern terminus, I-295 merges into southbound I-95. From this point south, I-95 is known as the Cross Bronx Expressway. Alternatively, one can say that the Cross Bronx Expressway changes designation from I-295 north to I-95 south. Yes, it's confusing. Before the merge, there is advance signage for the next exit on I-95, exit 5A, which is for Westchester Avenue and White Plains Road.
