NJ 34 begins at US 9 in Old Bridge and runs south as a two-lane undivided road. There is a traffic light at Cottrell Road and Steamboat Landing Road.

NJ 34 runs south through Aberdeen, Marlboro, and Holmdel. There are traffic lights at Cambridge Drive, Lloyd Road (CR 3), and Schenck Road.

NJ 34 widens to become a four-lane divided highway. There is an interchange with the Monmouth Freeway (NJ 18).

NJ 34 ends here at this traffic light. Continue straight ahead to go south on NJ 35 or turn left to go north. Turn right using the jughandle for NJ 70 which begins here.
