Coming into Wilmington, the median ends, and Lancaster Pike becomes Lancaster Avenue.

Lancaster Avenue is now a one-way street. Westbound traffic follows Second Street, which runs parallel one block to the left. There are traffic lights at Franklin Street, Harrison Street, and Van Buren Street

On the other side of the highway, DE 48 is known as Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. There are traffic lights at South Madison Street, North Madison Street, Justinson Street, West Street, Tatnall Street, and Orange Street.
