The turnpike passes through the remnants of a toll plaza. In the days before cashless tolling, motorists who did not have E-ZPass would hand in their tickets and pay a toll depending on how far they had travelled on the turnpike. Immediately after the toll plaza, there is a cashless tolling gantry where the toll is actually collected today.
