The Southern Parkway begins at Heckscher State Park. The easternmost section is signed as the Heckscher Parkway. This portion actually runs north and south but is still signed as an east/west route for consistency.

Exits 44E-W are for Sunrise Highway (NY 27). Trucks, buses, and trailers are allowed on the parkway east of this point so that they can access Heckscher State Park, but they must exit at Sunrise Highway (NY 27).
