Hempstead Turnpike runs west through Uniondale as a six-lane divided highway. There are traffic lights at Glenn Curtis Boulevard, the Nassau Coliseum, Uniondale Avenue (CR 188), and Earle Ovington Boulevard.

Hempstead Turnpike passes through the campus of Hofstra University. There are three pedestrian overpasses connecting the northern and southern halves of the campus. There is a traffic light at California Avenue and Hofstra Boulevard. Hempstead Turnpike narrows down to four lanes as it passes through the campus.

Coming into Hempstead, the median ends. The section of Hempstead Turnpike in Hempstead is known as Fulton Avenue.

In the Village of Hempstead, Fulton Avenue is locally maintained by the Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW) and carries the designation of CR 107.
