NY 24 begins as 212 Street and Hollis Court Boulevard at Hillside Avenue (NY 25) and the southern terminus of the Clearview Expressway (I-295) in Queens. This section is not signed because the people living on 212 Street and Hollis Court Boulevard did not like the traffic that went along with their streets being a state route. These streets end at Jamaica Avenue. At this point, NY 24 is routed along Hempstead Avenue, which begins at Jamaica Avenue. When it crosses the Queens-Nassau county line, Hempstead Avenue becomes Hempstead Turnpike. The section of Hempstead Turnpike in the village of Hempstead is called Fulton Avenue and is locally maintained by Nassau County. In eastern Nassau, Hempstead Turnpike becomes Conklin Street. NY 24 ends at Broad Hollow Road (NY 110) in Farmingdale. Before World War II, NY 24 used to run farther east through Suffolk and connect to Flanders Road in Riverhead, which is also designated NY 24.
