North Road passes under Sunrise Highway (NY 27) and there is an eastbound entrance ramp. Signs advise motorists to get on Sunrise Highway if they wish to follow CR 39. Although CR 39 continues straight ahead along North Road, all motorists are forced to turn around a mile ahead, making it necessary to use Sunrise Highway to access the portion of North Road east of that point. Canal Road (CR 39B) begins on the left opposite the entrance ramp.

All motorists are forced to turn around here at eastern terminus of Sunrise Highway (NY 27). North Road continues straight ahead, multiplexed with NY 27, but the section beyond this point must be accessed through Sunrise Highway. Originally, North Road merged with Sunrise Highway at this point in an interchange known as the "Shinnecock Squeeze," which was notorious for causing traffic jams during the summer months. The current configuration was created in order to ease traffic flow as part of a 2008 construction project that widened the section of North Road east of this point to four lanes.
