NY 35 begins at the Croton Expressway (US 9). It is multiplexed with US 202 for its first 10 miles.
In Amawalk, NY 35 splits off from US 202. It is known here as Amawalk Road and runs east as a two-lane undivided road.

Amawalk Road widens to four lanes. There is a traffic light at Somerstown Road (NY 100). Turn left to go north or right to go south. Amawalk Road runs here. Continue straight ahead onto Woods Bridge Road to stay on NY 35.

Woods Bridge Road splits off to the right at this traffic light to become a local street. NY 35 continues straight ahead as Cross River Road.

There is an interchange with I-684. Turn right at the first traffic light to go south or left at the second traffic light to go north. NY 117 and the Saw Mill Parkway both have their northern termini here. Use the southbound entrance to access either one.

There is an uncontrolled intersection at NY 121. Turn right onto Old Post Road to go south. Continue straight ahead on Cross River Road to go north and to stay on NY 35.
