This picture shows the grade crossing at the Main Line of the Long Island Rail Road as it appeared before construction work began to add a third track. The grade crossing was replaced with an overpass as part of the project.

During the first stage of the construction, the grade crossing remained open, but the road narrowed slightly passing through it.

A few weeks later, the road narrowed down to two lanes passing through the grade crossing.

By the winter, New Hyde Park Road was closed at the grade crossing. It was signed as closed to through traffic north of Stewart Avenue (CR 177). One block north at Stratford Avenue, it narrowed down to a single northbound lane. It ended at a fence at the construction site.

North of the tracks, New Hyde Park Road had two northbound lanes again, but the southbound side was narrowed down to a single lane.

Returning in the summer, the new overpass was installed, and work was in progress to regrade the road.

A few week later, substantial progress had been made on the regrading.

After another couple of weeks, the regrading was completed, and the road was almost ready to be paved.

Once paving was completed, the pedestrian walkway was partially open, but the road remained closed to traffic while the construction was completed.

When the road reopened to traffic, a banner on the new overpass celebrated the completion of the project.

This photograph shows northbound New Hyde Park Road at the Northern Parkway before the current signage was put up.

This sign used to mark the interchange with the Long Island Expressway (I-495) at the northern terminus. It has been replaced.
