Ocean Road begins at NJ 35 in Point Pleasant. There is a traffic light at Bay Avenue. Turn right to go north or left to go south.

Ocean Road runs west as a two-lane undivided road. There is a traffic light at Johnson Avenue and Arnold Avenue (CR 633). Johnson Avenue is erroneously signed as CR 10, although it does not actually have a county route number.

There is a traffic light at Memorial Drive, followed by a lift bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal.

On the other side of the bridge, there is a traffic light at Herbertsville Road (Spur CR 549) and Beaver Dam Road (CR 630). Herbertsville Road is erroneously signed as CR 549 instead of Spur CR 549.

NJ 88 continues to the west, changing names from Ocean Road to Princeton Post Road. There are traffic lights at River Avenue, Bridge Avenue (CR 632), Jordan Road, Midstreams Road, Coolidge Road, Van Zile Road, Barb Lane, and Jack Martin Boulevard. With the exception of CR 632, all of the county route numbers shown on the signs here are wrong.

There is a traffic light at Post Road, which carries the eastbound direction of NJ 88. Motorists heading west can turn left here, but it is more direct to just continue straight ahead.

There is a five-way intersection at NJ 70. Bear left to stay on NJ 88. Make a hard left to go east on NJ 70. Continue straight ahead to go west.

NJ 88 is now known as Ocean Avenue. There are traffic lights at Olden Street and Jack Martin Boulevard. Once again, the county route numbers shown are erroneous.

Ocean Avenue passes under the Garden State Parkway (NJ 444). There is no interchange.
