Westbound Views
Welcome to West Virginia! I-68 enters the state from Maryland while passing through the sort of mountainous terrain for which West Virginia is known. I-68 has three westbound lanes at the state line in order to accommodate slow-moving vehicles. There is a rest area and welcome center at the top of the hill.

At the top of the hill, I-68 narrows down to two westbound lanes. Exit 29 is for Hazelton Road (CR 5).

As I-68 goes uphill again, there is a third westbound lane for slow-moving vehicles. At the top, there is a brake check area where all trucks must stop before beginning the descent ahead. There is advance signage for exit 15 along this stretch.

Welcome to Monongalia County! As I-68 comes down the other side of the mountain, the speed limit for trucks is lowered to 50 MPH, and there is a runaway truck ramp.

Exit 10 is for the Mon-Fayette Expressway (WV 43) north.

Exit 1 is for Grafton Road (US 119), which changes names to become University Avenue just north of the interchange.
