There were once very small green signs, visible but too small to read in these pictures, in advance of major intersections on Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream and Lynbrook. They have been replaced with larger signs that are easier to read.

These "Passenger Cars Only" signs used to mark the interchange with the Meadowbrook Parkway on eastbound Sunrise Highway. They have been replaced with new "No Commercial Vehicles" signs.

This sign for the Meadowbrook Parkway was installed when the old "Passenger Cars Only" signs were removed, but it has itself since been replaced with a sign giving the distance to the parkway as a quarter of a mile.

These pictures show the eastern end of Sunrise Highway at it appeared before the widening of North Road (CR 39) in 2008. At the time, the NY 27/CR 39 section had only one eastbound lane, which was formed from the two lanes of Sunrise Highway merging with another lane from North Road. This was known as the Shinnecock Squeeze and was the site of notorious traffic jams during the summer months.

These pictures show the section of NY 27 along North Road (CR 39) and Flying Point Road (CR 39) in the area north of Southampton as it appeared prior to the widening. At the time, there was only a single eastbound lane, leading to major traffic problems. The signs showing CR 38 extending to the south were an error that was corrected at the time of the widening. The section of North Sea Road south of North Road was always a local street.

This all-capital sign for Sag Harbor and Shelter Island was found at the southern terminus of Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike (CR 79) on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. It has been replaced with a new sign that uses mixed-case lettering.

These signs used to mark the southern terminus of NY 114 at Montauk Highway in East Hampton. The ferry sign has been removed. The sign for Sag Harbor and Shelter Island is still standing but faded.
