At its interchange with US 1 in South Brunswick, US 130 becomes Georges Road, which quickly narrows down to two lanes. Georges Road runs north to New Brunswick. There are traffic lights at Cranbury Cross Road, Pardun Road, Hermann Road, Milltown Road (CR 602), and Nassau Street (CR 620).

Georges Road ends at a traffic light at Paul Robeson Boulevard, which was formerly known as Commercial Avenue. Turn right to stay on NJ 171. Route signage is lacking at this intersection. Sandford Street, a local street, is straight ahead.

Suydam Street runs west as a two-lane undivided road. There is a traffic light at Remsen Avenue.

There is a traffic light at Livingston Avenue. Turn right to stay on NJ 171. Turn left to go south on CR 691. There is only signage for the county route designation.

Livingston Avenue ends at a traffic light at George Street. Turn left to stay on NJ 171. Yet again, there is no route signage.

George Street runs west through New Brunswick. There are traffic lights at Bayard Street, Paterson Street, and Church Street.

NJ 171 ends at a traffic light at Albany Street (NJ 27/CR 514). Turn right to go north. Left turns are prohibited. George Street continues straight ahead as CR 672.
