Coming out of the downtown area of Great Barrington, US 7 splits off from State Road, which continues east as just MA 23. MA 183 is multiplexed with MA 23 here. After some distance, State Road changes names to become Monterey Road.

Welcome to Monterey! Pixley Road (MA 57) begins on the right, and MA 183 splits off to follow it. There is an erroneous sign here where MA 183 is signed with a circular route shield as if it were in New Jersey.
