These pictures show the Washington Monument, which is located on the National Mall just south of Constitution Avenue and commemorates the nation's first president, George Washington.

These pictures show the Lincoln Memorial, which is located at the other end of the National Mall and commemorates Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president who led the country during the Civil War. The inscriptions on the walls contain the words of two of Lincoln's most famous speeches, the Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. The memorial is itself a historic site, as this is where Martin Luther King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
