CT 22 is a state route that runs to the north and east of New Haven. It begins at Whitney Avenue (CT 10) in Hamden and runs east to US 5. It is multiplexed with US 5 for a short distance and then splits off to become Clintonville Road. Clintonville Road runs east to North Branford, where it intersects Middletown Avenue (CT 17). From there, it turns south as Forest Road and runs south to Foxon Road (CT 80). It is multiplexed with CT 80 for a short distance eastward and then turns south on Notch Hill Road. It ends at Boston Post Road (US 1) in Guilford.
Trucks are prohibited from the section of CT 22 between Whitney Avenue (CT 10) and State Street (US 5). There is a truck route along Dixwell Avenue (SR 717) from CT 10 to US 5, providing a way for trucks to bypass this section.
