River Road begins at Town Street (CT 82) and runs south as a narrow, curvy two-lane road.

In Hadlyme, SSR 431 changes names to become Geer Hill Road. It ends at Ferry Road (CT 148), just north of the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry. There is a stop sign at the southern terminus. Turn left to go east or continue straight to go west.
