PA 291 is a diagonal route through the southern suburbs of Philadelphia, providing a surface road alternative to the Delaware Expressway (I-95). It begins at Post Road (US 13) in Trainer, a couple of miles north of the Delaware state line. It passes under the Commodore Barry Bridge (US 322) and runs north through Chester and past Philadelphia International Airport to Philadelphia, where it ends at Broad Street (PA 611). PA 291 is signed as an east/west route even though it runs as much north and south as east and west, while other routes through the same area, such as I-95 and US 13, are signed as north/south.
