PA 196 is a north/south route in the Poconos. It begins at the intersection of PA 611 and PA 940 in Mount Pocono and runs north, eventually crossing I-84 with no interchange. Just north of I-84, PA 196 merges with PA 191 to form Easton Turnpike. The two routes are multiplexed for a few miles and then split. PA 196 continues along Easton Turnpike north to Lake Ariel, where it ends at PA 296. The entire length is a two-lane undivided road through rural areas.
