Broadway is a short north/south extending from Dix Hills through Greenlawn to Centerport. It begins as an unnumbered town road at Jericho Turnpike (NY 25). After a short distance, it crosses Park Avenue (CR 35) and becomes CR 86. It runs north for several miles to Greenlawn, where the county route designation ends at Pulaski Road (CR 11). Broadway continues north as an unnumbered town road, changing names to become Centerport Road, and ends at Main Street (NY 25A).

CR 86 originally included the entire length of Broadway and Centerport Road from Jericho Turnpike (NY 25) to Main Street (NY 25A). However, the northernmost and southernmost portions were decommissioned in 2022 as part of a series of maintenance swaps with the Town of Huntington.
