Cohoes Boulevard is an extension of I-787 north into Cohoes. It begins after the last exit on the highway, which is for NY 7, and runs north for a couple of miles before curving slightly to the west to end at NY 32 just south of the bridge where it crosses the Mohawk River. Cohoes Boulevard is a four-lane divided highway with traffic lights. Since it has traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, it does not meet interstate standards. Therefore, it is designated as a state route but nonetheless retains the same number as I-787.
Officially, I-787 takes an exit from itself at the end of the highway and follows NY 7 across the Collar City Bridge to Troy. Therefore, I-787 does not turn into NY 787, but it appears to do so because the section multiplexed with NY 7 is unsigned.
