NY 17C is an east/west route that provides a local alternative to the Southern Tier Expressway (NY 17/Future I-86). For most of its length, NY 17C runs along the north side of the Susquehanna River, while the expressway is on the south side. A short distance west of Johnson City, the expressway crosses the river, and NY 17C becomes its service road in the vicinity of exit 69. East of the exit, it splits off and follows Main Street through Johnson City and Binghamton to US 11, where it ends.
