The Shore Front Parkway is a short east/west route in the Rockaways running along the Atlantic Ocean. It is a two-lane divided road with traffic lights for the entire length. The Shore Front Parkway was originally planned to be a limited-access highway extending through the Rockaways all the way to the Nassau Expressway (NY 878) just over the Queens-Nassau county line. As a result of these plans, it is assigned a reference route number by the NYSDOT as a parkway, even though the entire length is a surface road with traffic lights.
