NJ 72 is an east/west route through the Pine Barrens leading to the one and only bridge to Long Beach Island. It begins at a traffic circle along NJ 70 in Vincentown and runs southeast through the Pine Barrens as a two-lane undivided road. In Stafford, it widens to become a four-lane divided highway with jughandles at many of the traffic lights. There are interchanges with the Garden State Parkway (NJ 444) and Main Street (US 9). From Stafford, it crosses a bridge over Manahawkin Bay to Long Beach Island. On the other side, it is routed along a pair of one-way streets for a short distance, with eastbound traffic following West 9th Street and westbound traffic following West 8th Street. It ends at Long Beach Boulevard (CR 607) in Ship Bottom.
