NJ 156 is a surface road serving as a local alternative to the expressway portion of US 130 in the Groveville section of Hamilton. It splits off just as the expressway begins, runs north for a little over a mile, and then merges back in as the expressway ends. NJ 156 only has connections to the southbound side of US 130. Motorists travelling north can either get on US 130 going south or turn around when they reach the end of NJ 156, but they cannot proceed north on US 130.
