CR 504 is an east/west route in Morris and Passaic counties. It begins at Main Road (Alternate CR 655) in Montville, one block away from US 202. The first section, Jacksonville Road, runs north and then curves to the east to eventually end at Newark Pompton Turnpike. It follows Newark Pompton Turnpike for a short distance to the southeast and then uses Black Oak Ridge Road to cut over to NJ 23/US 202.
CR 504 is interrupted by NJ 23/US 202 but continues again on the other side, following Black Oak Ridge Road south for a block to where it curves to become Ratzer Road. It follows Ratzer Road east for about a mile before turning north onto Alps Road and then east onto Hamburg Turnpike. It follows Hamburg Turnpike for a couple of miles to the southeast before turning onto Pompton Road, which becomes Haledon Avenue upon crossing Belmont Avenue (CR 675). In Paterson, it turns onto East Main Street. The first block of East Main Street is one-way, so westbound traffic uses Holsman Street to bypass this block. East Main Street runs along the Passaic River to Hawthorne, where it becomes Wagaraw Road. At Lincoln Avenue, CR 504 turns south and crosses a small bridge over the Passaic River to Paterson. On the other side, it ends at NJ 20.
