US 1A is the designation for several loops off of US 1 in Maine. It applies to no less than six separate routes in various places throughout the state. This page covers the longest of these and the only one to pass through multiple counties. It begins at Acadia Highway (US 1/ME 3) in Stockton Springs and runs north along the west side of the Penobscot River to Bangor. It follows Main Street through the city before turning east to cross a bridge over the river to Brewer, where it is known as Wilson Street. I-395 ends at US 1A just before it leaves Brewer and changes names to become Main Road. It runs southeast to Ellsworth, where it rejoins US 1/ME 3. The portion of US 1A east of I-395 serves as the most direct route to Acadia National Park, which can be reached by following ME 3 onto Mount Desert Island.
