ME 137 is an east/west route extending from Mercer to Belfast. It begins at Mercer Road (US 2) and runs southeast along Valley Road, which changes names to become Lake View Drive and ends at Village Road (ME 8) in Smithfield. The two routes are multiplexed along Village Road south to Smithfield Road. ME 137 turns east onto Smithfield Road, which runs east and south to Oakland, where it changes names to become High Street.
In the downtown area of Oakland, ME 137 turns south onto Oak Street for a few blocks and then turn onto Main Street, joining ME 11. After a few blocks, ME 11/ME 137 crosses ME 23 and changes names to become Kennedy Memorial Drive. It runs east to Waterville, where there is an interchange with I-95. About a mile thereafter, ME 137 splits off from ME 11, turning south onto Carter Memorial Drive.
Carter Memorial Drive curves back to the east and crosses a bridge over the Kennebec River. After a short distance, it ends at China Road. ME 137 follows China Road east to China, where it changes names to become Waterville Road and ends at US 202/ME 9. ME 137 follows US 202/ME 9 northeast for a few miles to Albion and then splits off onto Belfast Road. It runs east toward Belfast, changing names to become Waterville Road again and joining ME 7. In Belfast, Waterville Road changes names to become Waldo Avenue. ME 7 and ME 137 both end at an interchange with US 1.
