The Baltimore-Washington Parkway is a north/south highway extending from just north of Washington, DC, to Baltimore, Maryland. It splits off from Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) at its interchange with the John Hanson Highway (US 50) and runs northeast. It has an interchange with the Capitol Beltway (I-95/I-495) and then continues northeast, parallel to I-95, to Baltimore. There, I-95 curves to the east, and the parkway has an interchange with it before ending. At the end of the parkway, MD 295 continues north through Baltimore along Russell Street and Paca Street to end at Franklin Street (US 40). Paca Street changes designation at this point to become MD 129.
The southern portion of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, while the northern portion is under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Department of Transportation. The MD 295 is unsigned along the portion maintained by the National Park Service.
MD 295 is numbered as a continuation of I-295, although a rather indirect one. I-295 turns into the Anacostia Freeway (DC 295), which in turn becomes Kenilworth Avenue (MD 201) upon leaving the District of Columbia and entering Maryland. MD 295 then begins at the first interchange in Maryland, although the first portion is unsigned.
