Whitney Avenue is a north/south route in New Haven and Hamden. The portion in New Haven is under city jurisdiction. At the city line, it becomes an unsigned state road with the designation of SR 707. It continues north for a few miles to a traffic light at Dixwell Avenue (CT 10). There, the CT 10 designation turns north from Dixwell Avenue onto Whitney Avenue, and SR 707 ends. The entire length is a four-lane undivided road.
