US 44 is an east/west route from Kerhonkson, NY, to Plymouth, MA. In Connecticut, it is the northernmost east/west route crossing the state. It enters the state just east of Millerton and runs northeast to Canaan, about a mile south of the border with Massachusetts. It then runs southeast to Hartford, where it joins I-84 to cross the Connecticut River. On the other side of the river, it splits off again and continues east to the border with Rhode Island.
