SSR 478 is a loop off of CT 45 around Lake Waramaug providing access to Lake Waramaug State Park. Over its six-mile length, it goes through three names, one on each side of the lake. On the north side, it is known as North Shore Road. On the west side, it is known as Lake Waramaug Road. On the south side, it is known as West Shore Road. Rather counterintuitively, it is designated an east/west route despite being a loop off of a north/south route. This means that there is a significant distance where the eastbound side is actually heading west and vice versa. Fortunately, motorists don't have to worry about getting confused because the route is unsigned.
