Welcome to Nassau County! Hempstead Turnpike runs east through Elmont and Franklin Square as a four-lane undivided road. There are traffic lights at Elmont Road, Covert Avenue, Meacham Avenue, New Hyde Park Road (CR 5B), and Franklin Avenue.

The section of Hempstead Turnpike in the Village of Hempstead is known as Fulton Avenue. There are traffic lights at Cathedral Avenue and Hilton Avenue.

There is a section of Fulton Avenue that is locally maintained by the Nassau County Department of Public Works (NCDPW) and also carries the designation of CR 107. There are traffic lights at Franklin Avenue (CR 5A), Main Street, Washington Avenue (CR 7A), Clinton Road (CR 1), and Peninsula Boulevard (CR 2).

The locally maintained CR 107 section ends, and Hempstead Turnpike comes back under state maintenance. The speed limit goes up to 40 MPH.

Hempstead Turnpike becomes a divided highway and passes through the campus of Hofstra University. There are three pedestrian overpasses connecting the northern and southern halves of the campus. Immediately after the third overpass, there is a traffic light at Earle Ovington Boulevard and Uniondale Avenue (CR 188).

Hempstead Turnpike runs east through East Meadow. There are traffic lights at Coolidge Drive, Park Boulevard, East Meadow Avenue, Conti Square Boulevard, Front Street (NY 102), Carman Avenue, Third Street, Franklin Avenue, Clearmeadow Drive, and Prospect Avenue.
