NJ 28 is an east/west route extending from Bridgewater to Elizabeth, running right next to the Raritan Valley Line of New Jersey Transit. It runs parallel to US 22. However, while US 22 is a large divided highway with grade separations and jughandles, NJ 28 is routed along local streets and is a two- to four-lane undivided road with traffic lights passing through the centers of towns.
