NJ 124 is an east/west route in Morris and Essex counties. For much of its length, it runs parallel to the Morris-Essex Turnpike Bypass (NJ 24). It begins at US 202 in Morristown and runs southeast for about half a mile. It then turns onto Madison Avenue and has an interchange with the Middlesex Freeway (I-287). It continues south east to Madison, where it changes names to become Main Street. In Short Hills, it runs along the service roads for NJ 24. Further east, it splits off from NJ 24 and becomes Morris Turnpike and then Morris Avenue. In Springfield, Morris Avenue becomes NJ 82 and NJ 124 turns off onto Springfield Avenue. After a few miles, it ends at the Maplewood-Irvington township line and becomes Essex CR 603.
