Paterson Plank Road begins at NJ 17. It intersects Murray Hill Parkway and 20th Street at a traffic light. There is a jughandle for the left turn onto 20th Street.

Paterson Plank Road runs east through East Rutherford as a four-lane divided highway.

The roadway splits. Bear left for Washington Avenue (CR 503) north. Bear right to stay on NJ 120. There is a second section of Paterson Plank Road that exists as a local street and is accessible through CR 503.

The last section of NJ 120 is a very short expressway. There is an exit for the Meadowlands sports complex. NJ 120 ends at NJ 3. Bear right to go west or bear left to go east.

The roadway splits again. Both ramps lead to NJ 3 west. The ramp to the right merges into NJ 3 from the right instead of the left in order to facilitate accessing the exit for Meadowlands Parkway.
