In Bristol, Hope Street follows the route of the original Independence Day Parade in 1777. In this area, the center line is painted red, white, and blue, making this the country's most patriotic street. Special 2-way traffic signs advise motorists on how to drive with this unique pavement marking.

The parade route ends, and Hope Street reverts to an ordinary double yellow line. It eventually changes names to become Ferry Road.

Metacom Avenue (RI 136) merges in from the left to form a four-lane divided road near the campus of Roger Williams University. It quickly narrows down to two-lanes again.

RI 114 crosses the Mount Hope Bridge, a two-lane suspension bridge leading to Rhode Island, the island from which the state takes its name.

On the other side of the bridge, there is a traffic light. Turn right onto Bristol Ferry Road to stay on RI 114. Continue straight ahead for Boyds Lane, which connects to RI 24 and RI 138.
