NY 42 is a north/south route in the Catskills. It begins at US 6/US 209 in Port Jervis and is multiplexed with NY 97 for its first few miles to Sparrow Bush, where it splits off onto Rio Dam Road. It runs north to Monticello, where it becomes Forestburgh Road. At the end of Forestburgh Road, it turns east onto Broadway for a few blocks and then north onto Pleasant Street. There is an interchange with the Quickway (NY 17/Future I-86), and the NY 42 continues north to Woodbourne, where it is multiplexed with NY 52 across a small bridge. It then splits off and runs north again to NY 55 in Grahamsville, where it ends.
