US 40 is a major east/west route running most of the way across the country from Park City, Utah, to Atlantic City, New Jersey. It enters New Jersey from Delaware via the Delaware Memorial Bridge (I-295) and follows I-295 for one exit to the beginning of the New Jersey Turnpike (NJ 700). It then follows the turnpike for one exit before splitting off to become Wiley Road, a four-lane divided highway. After a couple of miles, Wiley Road ends at Harding Highway, a two-lane undivided road that it designated NJ 48 west of this point. US 40 follows Harding Highway across the state to Mays Landing, where it ends at Black Horse Pike (US 322). US 40 and US 322 are multiplexed along Black Horse Pike to Atlantic City, where it changes names to become Albany Avenue. Both routes end at Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City.
